Nimitz celebrates 37 years of service to the United States of America on Thursday May 3. In those 37 years Nimitz has deployed 17 times, changed homeport six times, and more than 100,000 Sailors have served on the deckplates.
-The Boatswains Pipe-
Dating back to an era of canvas sails and wooden decks, the Boatswains pipe has been a mainstay in the Navy. Its purpose is to alert the crew to a variet of things by way of distinct notes, tones and combinations of tunes. BM1 Alfonso explains the traditions and uses of the pipe and its place aboard Nimitz.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the battle of Midway. The battle of Midway is widely regarded as the most important naval battle of WWII. Nimtz will be hosting a multi-media rememberance of the battle begining in June.
